Today in class we continued working on our devising theater summative performance. We are working on creating a story strictly using movement. I came up with the idea of this story with my classmates which has to do with a ballet dancer (Talah) who falls in love with a boy (Westin), but who is then deliberately hit by a car by a girl (Yara) who is envious of Westin’s love of Talah. After the doctor (Me) reveals to Talah that her leg is broken and she will no longer be able to dance, Talah is heartbroken. When Westin finds out about Talah’s injury and how she will never be able to dance again, he decides to run away with the doctor. In the end, the doctor and Westin are run over by Yara as karma for the way we treated Talah, and Talah finds a new love interest (Abdul). We have been presented with many challenges while working on this performance. We had trouble thinking of a story, and It is hard to tell a story without dialogue and only through movement. We were also having trouble deciding on what music to use, because Talah and Westin had conflicting music tastes. In the end since we were running out of time, so we quickly got our ideas together and created a story, and we ended up trusting Talah that her song choice will work with out performance. Therefore, the biggest challenge has been time management and working together collaboratively, but as more time passes while we work together we have gotten better at working as a team.
