Jonathan and Rayan have arrived back from the theater workshop they attended in London, so today they told us about their experiences and shared the exercises they learned with us. One of these exercises taught us the importance of eye contact in theater: we had to stand in a circle and move across the circle whenever anyone made eye contact with us and walked towards us, and this continued on and on. The importance of focused, direct eye contact was seen whenever confusion was caused over who had made eye contact with who. We also did another exercise in which groups of three walked around, with one person being in the middle and two people on the sides as the “bodyguards.” Whenever the person started to fall towards a direction, it was the bodyguards responsibility to catch them. This helped me learn to trust the people I am working with, being trust is very important in theater. If you don’t have a trusting relationship with your classmates, you won’t be able to take risks with each other. These exercises were very fun and enlightening, and I can’t wait until I can attend next year’s theater workshop as well!
