Today in theater class our focus was on using movement to portray different ideas, concepts, stories, and emotions. To start off the class, Mrs. Morris made us watch a few examples of physical theater such as by Frantic Assembly. We then went on to put into practice this story telling through movement by getting into group of 2-3 and performing chair duets. By practicing chair duets, it will help us learn how to create stories using our bodies and therefore it will help us practice for the upcoming summative we have been preparing on about a story told through movement and no dialogue. The challenging part of the chair duets was coordinating my actions with my partner, and also remembering each action and the whole sequence of actions. My partner and I ended up forgetting what we were supposed to do, so our end result was all over the place in terms of coordination. But we repeated one of the scenes that we had messed up on, and the second time it was much better. Through this activity I saw how easily stories can be told using movement, how important coordination/timing are when working in a group of people, and I also learned that practice makes perfect (so next time I will definitely practice a lot more than once or twice).
